Can 91% of Republicans be Wrong?

As unnamed sources continue to run around screaming “I saw Goody Palin with the Devil,” there were some interesting numbers that came out yesterday from Rasmussen Reports. Rasmussen is a polling agency that was the most accurate in this past election, and as an independent pollster, doesn’t take on the biases of the MSM outlets that hire them.

They found that amongst Republican voters:

-69% feel that she helped the ticket.

-71% think McCain made the right choice picking her, while only 65% think they made the right choice picking John McCain.

-She has a 91% FAVORABILITY RATING.

Now, she has A LOT of work to do to win over unaffiliated voters (and two or three years to do it), but for the time being the Republican voters are the one that matter most. This leads me to ask the following question…

What possible reason would “unnamed sources” have to launch a coordinated attack to destroy Sarah Palin, and to do so in a way that makes John McCain look bad?

For a possible answer, consider this from Marc Ambinder: “There were people who can be fairly described as being [a former rivals] advisers who began to criticize Palin and pass along what their Republican friends were telling them. But so did consultants, strategists and activists representing every potential 2012 candidate. And other advisers [from the same former rival] continued to praise her.”
