Just a small town boy, born and raised in South Detroit…
I don’t pretend to have a clue aboot the economy. I worry a lot aboot the “moral hazards” and the way these bailouts are being sold to us the same way the Iraq war was. But trying to wrap my head around the auto bailout makes me want to start stocking up on canned goods (though there are some interesting takes on it here, here, and here).
There is one thing that, through all the blogging, demagoguery, and arguing on my television, I keep wondering…where the hell is Mitt Romney?
One of the biggest complaints aboot the economic turmoil we find ourselves in is that no one in charge seems to have any idea what they’re doing, or even knows what to do in the first place. Enter Mitt Romney, who was able to sell the last bailout in a way that made me slightly less angry aboot it. He has ties to Michigan. He has ties to the auto industry. He’s an economic policy wonk. Plus from a purely political standpoint, you may or may not have heard on the news, but the Republican Party is in need of what some might call leadership.
Romney wouldn’t need to call a press conference where he stands in front of his twenty-seven different economic advisers to convince people he has a grasp of the situation.
Help us Obi-Mitt.
UPDATE: He must have heard me talking aboot him.
UPDATE DEUX: A compromise?
