Mitt Romney hits the road

Mitt Romney is back out on the campaign trail Friday, stumping and raising for Georgia Senator Saxby Chambliss. Chambliss has that run off election in December, so Mitt is lending a hand…and thanks to his WSJ editorial this week aboot the bailout, lending a hand with some extra press curiosity. I know as of me writing this, it’s the top story on Mark Halperin’s “The Page.”

Mitt Romney is going to be an interesting cat to watch over the next few years, especially to see which Romney it is. Romney the “born again social conservative” didn’t do so well, and once he lost Iowa the wheels rapidly started to come off. His speech after losing the Florida primary sounded like it was written by Matt Stone and Trey Parker, because it couldn’t have been a better satire of a cheesy politician’s speech…except the satire wasn’t intentional.

But the “real” Mitt Romney – the Mitt Romney I was curious aboot prior to the election, the Mitt Romney who did a better job campaigning for John McCain than McCain did, the Mitt Romney who needed to lose the 217 advisers and be himself – if in light of all the economic turmoil if we get to see that Mitt Romney, maybe the Reagan-Ford ’76 comparisons might not sound so ridiculous after all.

Of course, it would help if Obama is as successful as Jimmy Carter was.

And I do wonder what a Mitt Romney/Newt Gingrich debate looks like.

Lord knows we need SOME leadership…
