While we wait for him to officially endorse Michael Steele for RNC Chair, Newt Gingrich and some guy named Peter Ferrara wrote a recent editorial titled “Let’s Have a Real Middle-Class Tax Cut.” In it they talked aboot the price of tea in China and the new Guns n’ Roses album. Just kidding. What they really talked aboot was a “real” middle-class tax cut, vs. Barack Obama’s phony one. Here’s Newt and/or Peter’s idea.
For a real middle-class tax cut, we should cut the 25% income tax rate that now applies to single workers earning $32,550 to $78,850, and married couples earning $65,100 to $131,450. We should reduce that rate down to the 15% rate paid by workers below these income levels. That would, in effect, establish a flat-rate tax of 15% for close to 90% of American workers.
They went on to flesh out their idea more and explain why Obama’s plan is a bunch of poppycock. Here’s what I’m wondering…WHERE THE FUCK WAS THIS PLAN THREE MONTHS AGO?
Obvious Newt wasn’t going to share with the McCain campaign; that would just be silly. But it’s not like they’re reinventing the wheel here. Their plan is the equivalent of telling people the best way to lose weight is to exercise and eat less food. But out of the twenty-seven R’s who at one point were running for President this year, and the God knows how many advisers and policy folk working for the cat who got the nomination, why could none of them devise a plan this a) simple, and b) easy to sell to the American people?
I should just make my own Gingrich/Jindal 2012 sign now and save time.
