Country Muzik Monday: James Otto

A lot of my big city friends hate on country music purely on principle, whether it be because of a xenophobia of southerners or a hatred of George Bush or that they never forgave CBS for giving us Coy and Vance or what have you. There are a few country artists with more of a rock vibe that, if you were open minded enough to give a listen, could really cross over. One of those cats is James Otto.

James is an Eddie Van Halen fan whose mother listened to country and western and father listen to everything from Bob Seger to Motown. It all shows in his music, a combination southern rock, soul, and country. He also rolls with the Muzik Mafia, and anyone associated with Big and Rich or Jon Nicholoson is automatically cool in my book.

He also puts on one hell of a live show, but since he’s off the road until the new year you’re gonna have to wait. :-)

For your listening pleasure I’ve selected “Sunset Man,” “Damn Right,” “Good Thing Gone Bad,” and “You Don’t Act Like My Woman.” Enjoy…

  3. I love your article! James is a fantastic singer and performer! I’m also so thrilled and honored that you would choose one of my You tube videos to be on your article, that rocks! You really have a talent for writing. I love your song and video choices. You gotta love James Otto and Jon Nicholson performing together. That was an awesome concert! I agree with you that everybody should experience the Otto Show!
