Diego Sanchez dropping to 155?
Interesting MMA buzz on the net today, UFC welterweight Diego Sanchez posted on his MySpace page that he’s training to fight at lightweight. Sanchez rep says he, who is a “small” welterweight, will fight in whatever weight class the UFC wants him to. This is the same Diego Sanchez who won the first season of “The Ultimate Fighter” as a middleweight.
To the dismay of a few friends, Sanchez is actually one of my favourite fighters. He gets this look in his eye right when he “smells the blood in the water” that is a sing of beauty.
My personal opinion was that he could have beat Josh Koscheck had he used some of his BJJ and not tried to impress us with the boxing he learned from Oscar de la Hoya.
“Nightmare” at lightweight would be fun. I still want to see him fight Thiago Alves, and if he wins we’d more than likely see him fight Georges St. Pierre too. But if we got him fighting cats like Roger Huerta, Clay Guida, and God willing Kenny Florian…that wouldn’t suck too much.
