John Ensign! Tom Coburn! Jim DeMint! David Vitter! Richard Shelby! A real “Gang of Mavericks” plan to filibuster the auto bailout that a) was agreed upon without the Senate Republican’s seeing the language, and b) has yet to be posted so the American taxpayers can see what they’re paying for this time:
Senate conservatives are set to announce their plans to stop the bill at a press conference on Wednesday. They are going to buy some time so Americans can make their voices heard. Government bailouts have become commonplace in Washington and it’s time for Americans to demand change we can all believe in.
So far the money quote comes from Coburn (R-OK): “He believes it’s naive to trust Congress to manage the auto industry when it can’t manage itself.”
Seriously, if we can’t take a stand the day after P.E. BAM’s governor is arrested (who BAM apparently denies ever knowing), we should just close up shop and consider a move to Canada.
UPDATE DEUX: An alternative.
UPDATE TRES: House passes UAW bailout 237-170. All eyes are on the senate and the “Gang of Mavericks” tomorrow.
