Should Republicans Block Burris from the Senate?

So, last Tuesday, BLAGO! appointed some cat named Roland Burris (fmr IL Attorney General) to fill Barack Obama’s vacated senate seat. Harry Reid and the other Democrats had threatened not to seat anyone that BLAGO! appointed (apparently he’s involved in a minor legal scrape) and plan on backing up their word. Burris, for his part, is planning on taking it to the highest court to make sure that he’s seated.

There’s been some discussion as to whether or not Republican’s should block Burris from this senate seat. I say this with all love and affection to my Republican brethren who think we should block him…are you people fucking kidding me?

Set aside the fact that the Governor, regardless of what he’s been accused of doing, has the legal right to fill any empty senate seats…the longer this goes on the longer it’s in the news, and in 2009 and beyond BLAGO! is the new face of the Democrat Culture of Corruption. Charlie Rangel and Chris Dodd just don’t seem to have the same panache.

This scandal has the added bonus of it being impossible for the media to hide the fact that BLAGO! is a Democrat. This is not to say that the media is biased. It just seems that while they went out of their way to make sure we knew Larry Craig was an R, they didn’t think it was as important to remind us that Elliot Spitzer was a D, or that John Edwards was a D. When BLAGO! as a Democrat is filling and empty Democrat seat with another Democrat, not even Andrea Mitchell and the other fair and balanced reporters from NBC News can hide the party affiliation.

Also, tell me you don’t enjoy seeing the race card being thrown back in Democrat faces. Liberals look to play the race card against us everytime we order black coffee. Seeing it being used against them simply warms the cockles of my heart. Seems like the perfect time to have two Black African American’s running to be RNC chair, huh? You can almost picture Michael Steele and Ken Blackwell squirt milk out of their nose as they watch things unfold.

So no, we should not stand to block Roland Burris from the senate, or get in the way of BLAGO! being BLAGO! Instead, all we should do is grab a lawn chair and a big bag of popcorn, sit back and enjoy the show.

It’s just a shame Illinois doesn’t have a Republican party that can exploit this.

UPDATE: Awesome!

I make an even stronger case in an article I published on Rebuild The Party entitled Blago, Burris, strict construction vs Dingy Harry and his 50 Klansmen. Co-opting Burris’ cause would be pure gold!
