With all the focus on BLAGO! and incoming IL Senator Ronald Burris, we’ve forgotten aboot one of the other disputed senate seats…the one in Minnesota where Al Franken currently leads incumbent Norm Coleman by less than fifty votes. There plan to be lawsuits to where we won’t know an official winner for a few months, but the Democrat party wants to seat Franken even before the election has been certified, just because he’s leading right now.
Never mind that if a Republican “found” two hundred extra votes, Michael Moore would be making a documentary, Keith Olbermann would have a coronary, and fair and balanced news outlets like MSNBC and the New York Times would have around the clock, in depth coverage.
Never mind they want to seat Franken (who isn’t certified) but not Burris (who is certified), just because Burris is an inconvenience to them.
Texas Senator John Cornyn says “Bite Me” that seating Franken this week simply isn’t going to happen…
“I can assure you that there will be no way people on our side of the aisle will agree to seat any senator provisionally or otherwise unless there is a valid election certificate and all legal issues about who got the most votes is finally decided.”
Me, I’m starting to make peace with Sen. Franken. The way I see it, if I prepare for the worst, I can be pleasantly surprised when Norm Coleman emerges as Minnesota Senator.
If Franken managers to steal the election -like Christine Gregorie (D-WA) stole the Washington Gubernatorial election a few years back, which was of course ignored by the MSM – I’ll be ready.
At least, I think I’ll be…
UPDATE: And of course it all goes back to BLAGO! Read this, then read the following quote from John Cornyn:
“For the last several weeks, Senator Reid has led the charge to deny the people of Illinois a voice in choosing their next U.S. senator in a special election,” Cornyn said in a Saturday afternoon statement. “Now we learn that Senator Reid also took the extraordinary step to lobby against two sitting U.S. congressmen and the state senate Majority Leader in Illinois, and instead told Governor Blagojevich that he supported an appointment for an individual [Duckworth] who recently lost a U.S. House election.”
“The people of Illinois deserve a simple explanation from Senator Reid – why does he believe these three Illinois officeholders are ‘unelectable’ to the U.S. Senate?” Cornyn added.
I think he’s my new favourite senator.
