Club Gitmo: Lost Our Lease

As one of President’s Obama’s first official acts (now that we settled that pesky issue of whether or not he was ever sworn in), he fulfilled a promise made to the far-left nutroots and sign an executive order to close the Guantanamo Bay Prison Camp in Cuba…much to the dismay of just aboot everyone on our side.

I give you Republican whip and conservative “It boy” Eric Cantor, just because his response was the most convenient one in my inbox…

“The single most important role of government is to defend our nation and protect innocent Americans from those who seek to destroy our way of life. We all want to protect our troops in combat and our citizens at home, but there are serious questions that must be answered before Guantanamo Bay is closed. For example, how does it make sense to close down the Guantanamo facility before there is a clear plan to deal with the terrorists inside its walls? And what will American soldiers do with the terrorists they capture in the field before a Presidential Commission offers them a clear position?

“Actively moving terrorists inside our borders weakens our security, raises far more questions than it answers and is the wrong track for our nation. Most families neither want nor need hundreds of terrorists seeking to kill Americans in their communities. We need to have a serious, careful, and realistic national discussion about the ramifications of closing Guantanamo Bay.”

I don’t usually blog aboot the War on Terror and torture (or at least what the MSM considers torture), just because I usually need a lot of coffee and a few hours at the diner to do so. As for where the President plans to put the prisoners, that isn’t clear (though someone in Pennsylvania is willing to take them, and apparently Colorado too) as are issues like this.

I have just one question, as the debate over torture, or “torture,” plays out for the next week or two. If there was a threat to American lives, and President Obama thought that he could get the information to stop it by squirting someone in the face with a hose, does anyone NOT think he would?

Because if you don’t, and you voted for him because you think he wouldn’t, that scares me more than anything else.
