Survey Says: The Stimulus Su-Diddly-Ucks

Another day another round of debates of the…say it with me now…crap sandwich that all the kids are calling the Great Fiscal Suicide Act of 2009 (aka stimulus). President Obama hit the road to sell his stimulus plan…to House Democrats…at some shee shee spa and resort…that’s being paid for with our tax dollars. In a nutshell he wants this to be a bi-partisan effort…just as long as Republicans don’t say anything to disagree with him, because if this bill doesn’t get passed we’re all going to die.

You know, just like the $700 Billion bailout from a few months back. On Monday, the Treasury Secretary is going to tell us his plan for the second half of the money. No word yet on if he’s going to tell us what happened to the first half.

While this was going on, CBS News released a poll on FSA09. While 51% of the people polled support the plan, that number is down 12 % since last month. There were other statistics that jumped out:

-Most people haven’t heard of Nancy Pelosi, those who have hate her by 3 to 1.
-45% say the crap sandwich won’t shorten the recession at all
-81% think the bill should be bi-partisan, 13% would be okay with just Dems.
-59% think tax cuts would be more effective vs. 22% who think spending would.

I’d like to focus on the last two (the one aboot President Pelosi I through in there just to be a dick). Because while 81% think should be bi-partisan and 59% think tax cuts are the most effective, here are the Republican amendments that the Democrats voted down in the name of bi-partisanship:

-An amendment by Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) to cut $47 billion in wasteful spending.
-An amendment by Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) cut corporate and individual income taxes and repeal the AMT.
-An amendment by Sen. John Thune (R-SD) to require funding for all projects in the bill occur within one year.
-An amendment by Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) to require spending cuts and a move to a balanced budget once the economy recovers.
-An amendment by Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-OK) to cut $5.2 billion in pet projects and replace it with the same amount of defense spending.
-An amendment by Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) to cut the tax rate for the lowest tax bracket in half.
-An amendment by Sen. Jim Bunning (R-KY) to repeal the 1993 Social Security tax increase.

(Plus there was Sen. DeMint’s amendment against religious discrimination, which fifty-two open minded and tolerant Democrats voted against).

So while President Obama continues to live out George Bush’s third term (using the politics of fear to scare us into supporting a bill that most people in Congress haven’t read), the debate in the Senate rambles on until Harry Reid calls a vote, which I predict will be 59-39.

That’s right there is some change we can believe in, I don’t care what you say.
