There’s a lot of talk of what we need to do to “fix the party.” Everyone’s concerned aboot what we have to do to fix the Republican brand. Outside of mixed martial arts and the Fiscal Suicide Act, it’s the most common topic of this blog. And the one common theme is that we wouldn’t have to fix the party if we didn’t break it in the first place.
Louisiana Governor and conservative wunderkind Bobby Jindal agrees. He spoke on this at one of the many, many, many Lincoln Day Dinners that are going on this month:
“The country fired us from our congressional majority in 2006. Why? The country didn’t stop being conservative. The Republican Party did,” Jindal told a gathering of Arkansas Republicans. “We became what we came to Washington to change – the party of earmarks and government spending. The party needs to stop worrying about what to do to fix itself. Let’s worry more about fixing our country. Then the party will fix itself.”
Jindal also discussed his push to put a new set of ethics rules in place in Louisiana – a state where he said half of it is under water and the other half is under indictment. “Hundreds of members of state boards and commissions resigned in protest,” he said. “That was fine with me. I knew they could be replaced by people who’d work for free and wouldn’t mind having everyone know what they were doing.”
Everyone is looking for him to be the Ghost of Reagan Future who’s is going to lead us out of the wilderness like Jacob to freedom. As I’ve been saying, I agree…just not in 2012. He would have had to be putting some moves in place by now, and for some reason when he says he’s not running I believe him…at least in 2012.
So it’s re-election to the Louisiana statehouse in a few years, though I wouldn’t expect him to completely sit out of the 2012 primary season. If not an endorsement (or maybe even a V.P. slot), he’s definitely a cat I expect to speak up and continue his ascent to the national stage.
Or, he could make a liar of me and run in 2012 anyways. I’m still going to vote for him.

Just finished reading a lot of comments on Malkin’s site and I can see why you guys are out in the cold and will be for some time……because you listen to these right-wing crazies and Rush Limbaugh gives you your marching orders. Now, how many Americans with an ounce of sense listens to Rush and takes his message to heart? He is a drug-addict, a big user of Viagra (can’t get it up?), a liar and blow-hard and is a fat ugly man and you want HIM to be your leader?
Maybe someday a real leader will come along in the Republican Party. I hope it happens soon because the thought of a one-party system is not a very pleasant one. Even we liberal dems don’t want that. We want a choice, so give us a good one.
BY the way, I am an ex-military nurse and all of my liberal friends have served their country with honor. That is more than I can say for a lot of republican draft-dodgers who just LOVE the military!!!
Joy, a “seminar poster” if I ever saw one.
