The UFC reaches a milestone this July as it runs its 100th PPV event…kinda. I don’t know how they factor in the free shows on Spike TV, but either way, UFC100 will be held July 11 in Las Vegas. There was talk of a “Night of Champions” where all the titles would be on line.
Dana White, UFC president and my idol, says, “Eh, not so much so.” But he did mention one champion who would be fighting that night…Georges St. Pierre. So sayeth my second favourite president this side of Simon Spero…
“I’m pretty confident that UFC 100 will have Georges St. Pierre on the card. UFC 100 will more than likely have Georges St. Pierre defending his welterweight title.”
Well said, Mr. White. Well said indeed.
It’s safe to imagine this will be GSP’s fight against Thiago Alves. If it were me, I’d also throw on BJ Penn defending his title against Kenny Florian and Anderson Silva in his second fight at 205 (since he doesn’t really have any title contenders).
It isn’t a “night of champions” per say, but you would still have the three cats many consider in the running to be pound-for-pound the best in the world. Having them all on the same card, and possibly staring each other down in the same Octagon, would rock the proverbial socks.
