Romney was Right

A few months back I had a series of blog posts I referred to as “Grand Theft Auto Bailout” (all of which are collected here). I only really started blogging seriously since the election and it was the first major issue that bothered me. In fact, my favourite piece of reader mail was from a guy who claimed I knew nothing of the auto industry and said he was forced to “question my credibility.”

Pssst…I’m a blogger. I ain’t got no credibility.

However if there was one cat who did have the credibility, it was son of Detroit and former presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Romney penned an editorial calling for a structured bankruptcy, to the cries of…well, all the usual voices who cry whenever a Republican says something that defers from Dear Leader.

Paul Ryan vs. the House GOP

I’ve made it no secret that I’m a big fan of Paul Ryan. I haven’t agreed with him on some of his recent votes (and thought his excuse for voting for the 90% AIG tax was cockamamie), but he still remains the young, fresh face that’s chock full of ideas the party needs. I even printed out copies of “The Road Map for America’s Future” for my fellow Nassau County Young Republicans, and Ryan placed third in our straw poll on who we thought the future of the party was (behind first place Mitt Romney and tied for second Sarah Palin and Bobby Jindal).

That’s why last Thursday, while Paul Ryan was busy working on the GOP’s alternative budget and some are comparing him to cats like John Kasich and Newt Gingrich, I couldn’t for the life of me figure out why the House GOP Leadership felt in necessary to put out a “blueprint” of what the budget would be, that produced no numbers and no projections, and was essentially a collection of catchphrases and pictures of windmills.

Seriously, whoever’s idea that was needs to be kicked squarely in the nuts. While Ryan (and apparently Eric Cantor sided with him on this) was working on what could amount to a new “Contract for America,” John Boehner and Mike Pence rushed this blueprint out to prevent the Democrats from calling them the “Party of No,” which actually worked. They stopped saying “Party of No” and started saying “Party of No New Ideas.”

Song of the Day: Can’t Smile Without You

Just because,  for reason’s unknown to me, I’ve had Barry stuck in my head all day…

Night Moves

Okay, at least the RNC Funraising wasn’t so bad.

The rest of the GOP seems energized…at least for now.

The R’s are even starting to close the gap on the D’s.

Don’t forget the NY-20.

Don’t forget the NY-20 Part Deux.

And this is why you’re fat

Huckabee: Hey, Let’s Try Being Conservative

A little known John Fact, my first ever donation to a political campaign was Mike Huckabee. I had liked a lot of what I had heard from them (plus he had Chuck Norris and WHOO Ric Flair endorsing him), and for the $20.08 Team Huckabee was asking for, I figured what the hell. I remain a fan of his.

His path to 2012 is an interesting one. He doesn’t have a clearly defined role to fill, especially with Sarah Palin owning most of the social conservatives. Yet just aboot every poll taken has him either in second place, or statistically tied for first (with Gov. Palin usually). Right now, besides trying to appeal to a non-Christian electorate through his talk show, it looks like he’s trying to be the guy to remind us we need to get back to our roots.

As was the case in this recent “Washington Times” editorial. Making the case for limited government…
