Country Muzik Tuesday: Need You Now

Picture perfect memories scattered all around the floor, reaching for the phone ‘cuz I can’t fight it anymore. And I wonder if I ever cross your mind?

Glenn Beck is an Assclown

I wasn’t even going to say anything. Not being Beck fans, my entourage and I (I roll deep) opted to start cocktail hour early instead of listening to his speech. But all day today I was asked two things: did Ron Paul really win the straw poll (I refer you to Patrick Ruffini), and what I thought of Glenn Beck. What I think is that he’s an assclown. As for his speech, two things based on excerpts.

One, a speech full of applause lines that most of us agree with anyway doesn’t impress me. “The Republican Party has lost it’s way.” No shit, RNC Chair Michael Steele will even tell you that. After sitting through a few days of serious speeches by serieous people – Marco Rubio compelling narrative, Mitt Romney’s economic recovery, Tim Pawlenty on how to govern as a conservative in a blue state, Newt Gingrich just being his awesomely awesome self – hearing him say the most basic beliefs of conservatism as if he’s the first person to think of him doesn’t empress me.

The other thing is his whole schtick on how there isn’t any difference between the two parties, and how there should be a third party because the Republicans are just as bad as the Democrats. For this, I refer you to Redstate.com’s Erick Erickson, not some who is known for carrying the GOP’s water for them…

Mitt Romney: Meet Him Again, For The First time

I mentioned the “Re-Imagining of Mitt Romney” last week (to which a friend of mine snarkily called the re-re-re-re-imagining, *shakes fist*) on how M-Ro has learned from the mistakes of his failed 2008 campaign. Top of the list is of course not running as himself and instead running as a born again social conservative who was a ghost of Reagan future. Then after losing in Iowa, the wheel complete fell off, we nominated John McCain, we got President Obama.

The birth of the new and improved Mitt Romney took place last week at CPAC, where he was the best I’ve ever seen him. I was even sitting next to a friend who was a Rudy person and never a big Romney supporter, turn to me and say, “Okay, I’m sold.” Of course one speech does not a re-invention make, but it still felt like the official launch of his 2012 Presidential Campaign.

Here is senior JBdotC Romney correspondent Dan Balz with more…

Rubio ’10 = Reagan ’73?

Conservatives over the past year have been disappointed some of the young leaders we’ve been turning too for…well, new leadership. Sarah Palin was an all-star college quarterback who entered the draft a year early and has never recovered. Bobby Jindal’s response to President Barry’s address from LAST YEAR was so embarrassing that we haven’t heard much from him since…which sucks because his would have been a valuable voice to have on our side during the health care debate.

So I was a little nervous when Sen. Jim DeMint introduced SOON TO BE Sen. Marco Rubio to deliver his opening address to CPAC last Thursday morning. Midway through the speech I turned to my friend and said, “I wonder if this is what it was like when they heard Reagan in 1973.”

It had the usual blend of policy and red-meat applause lines that you expect at conferences like this. But there was something else I couldn’t put my finger on until I read – of all people – Kathleen Parker…

Music Monday: Stop Dragging My Heart Around

Larry Kudlow: Are You In or Out?

New York can be a tough place to be a Republican. On one hand we have guys like Rick Lazio and Ed Mangano – guys who see the mess New York is in, have the ideas to fix it, and even though it’s an uphill climb for any R in a deep blue state like New York, are willing to fight one voter at a time.

Then you have the “Hamlet on the Hudson” approach, where the candidate will toy with the idea of running, hint that they’re going to run, consider announcing that they’re going to run…and then let us down in the end. You know the names so I won’t mention them here (especially since that’s how I get myself in trouble), but let’s just say it’s led to much frustration and many cuss words.

The jury is still out as to which category CNBC’s Larry Kudlow falls, who is the only cat willing to run against current Sen. Chuck “Chuckles” Schumer, who is the most vulnerable he’s been during his entire tenure as Senator. And with editorials like these, I’m PRAYING that Kudlow falls into the former category…
