“He is kryptonite to progressives.” – Mary Matalin, on Rep. Paul Ryan
So in the name of bipartisanship (which is a Latin word that means “opposition party bend over and do what you’re told”), the President spoke at the House GOP Retreat and had a televised question and answer session on a Friday afternoon…when most people aren’t paying more attention to happy hour than they are the news. The conventional wisdom is that Obama won that round and made the Republicans look stupid or something.
Here’s my question: if that’s the case, why is it that Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) and his “Roadmap for America’s Future” is the one everyone is talking aboot?
People who have read this blog know that I’m a huge fan of Ryan’s. Over the summer, while the President was lying to the American people that Republican’s didn’t have any ideas, Paul Ryan was holding some nineteen or so (I think) town hall meetings in his congressional district talking about Republican alternatives for health care reform, the budget, energy, etc. Of course he was only given 4:15 to discuss this on MSNBC while they spent over a half an hour discussing whether or not an assclown like Glen Beck is good for the Republican Party (and this was even on “Morning Joe”), but the ideas have always been there and now he has been elevated by the White House and President Obama, people are starting to notice.
