There isn’t a Republican primary battle that better personifies the divide in the Republican Party than the Florida Senate race between Marco Rubio and Charlie Crist. No, it’s not a battle between the “conservatives” vs. the “moderates” or the – perish the thought – “liberals.” It’s between Republicans who stand for something versus those who don’t. That’s what the fight between Rubio (who I’m an admitted supporter of) vs. Crist (who I think is an un-ideological, opportunistic douche) is really about.
It’s between Rubio the reformer vs. Crist the guy who supported Rudy Giuliani in 2008, before he supported Mitt Romney, before he supported John McCain, before he supported Obama’s stimulus, before he opposed Obama’s stimulus, before he vetoed a education reform bill that a) should be at the center of any right leaning reformist agenda, and b) he originally supported.
And who by most accounts may or may not be switch to become and Independent this week. ::shrugs::
As for the actual “civil war,” there a a GREAT piece in the Wall Street Journal a few days ago…

…baby they were born to run. That’s right, I opened with a hack Springsteen reference. Don’t judge me.
It’s rare to find a Republican who excites you for, well, governing like a Republican. It’s even more rare for one to come from a blue state like the Dirty Jerz (aka New Jersey), home to My Chemical Romance, The View Askewniverse, and Tico “the Hitman” Torres. Enter Chris Christie.
It’s funny because, while I was amused by his appearance on “Imus in the Morning” (the one where he made fat jokes aboot himself), I went with a few friends to campaign for him and was a little underwhelmed. “Chris Christie is going to lower taxes.” Well, no shit. He’s a Republican. That’s the least we should expect. Six months later after criticizing the campaigning they had us doing (turns out being a blogger DOESN’T mean I know what I’m talking aboot), I found myself sending around a video of his from “Morning Joe” telling everyone I knew with an (R-State) after their name they needed to stop what they’re doing and watch. This was a guy who was the real deal. Quite frankly, when we went after the teachers unions it made my nipples hard pleased me greatly.
And it’s not just me, as per the dependently and radically right wing publication…The Washington Post? The heck you say…

I’m over the tea parties. Yes, I know they might try to throw me off of Twitter for saying so, but for the most part they’ve started to bore me. So when the left started in with their “wah, you tea baggers are so violent” schtick, I just shrugged it off.
I mean, if we’re talking aboot “inciting violence” I could point to President Obama last summer telling his followers to “get in people’s faces,” and a week later the SEIU was at town hall meeting assaulting protesters – including one instance where they were shouting racial slurs at the guy while they were beating him down – and how some could see that as “inciting violence,” but…meh. Personally, I enjoy watching NBC News and other leftwing outfits like the Huffington Post and the New York Times get outrageous outraged, but they’ve been doing it every time a group of conservatives opposed any part of the Obama agenda and your average voter has been able to see through it anyways.
I should probably point out that I fully supported the left exercising their first amendment rights by protesting anything the Bush Administration did over the past eight years. I also supported the senate filibuster, and thought people should have read major pieces of legislation like the Patriot Act before signing it. I digress…

One of my many job titles is the New Media Director for the New York State Young Republicans…which let’s be honest, is really just a fancy way of saying I sit in the basement eating Cheetos and playing on the Internets all day (and visiting TechRepublican.com as much as I can). But it gets me free books, gives me a the opportunity to rant on the radio once a week (The Right Hook, son), and I do try to read up as much on the latest New Media news (or social media news, or direct media news, etc.) that I can. So the article from Politico, 2012 prelude: GOP hopefuls go online, caught my eye.
It took a look at the more popular names who are rumoured to be running for President in 2012, and the investments they’re putting into an online strategy this far out from even the 2010 midterms. So sayeth David All, the god of all things Republican and/or conservative internets related…
