NY GOP Convention: Advice from Ronald Reagan

This was from Ronald  Reagan’s speech at the 1976 GOP Convention…

“This is our challenge, and that is why here in this hall tonight, better than we’ve ever done before, we have to quit talking to each other and about each other, and go out and communicate to the  world that we might be fewer in numbers than we’ve ever been, but we carry the message they are waiting for.  We must go forth from here united, determined, that what a great general said a few years ago is true, “There is no substitute for victory.”

UFC 114 Results: What’s Next for Rampage Jackson?

Apparently being off for over a year affected Rampage Jackson. The same fighter who dominated Wanderlai Silva and Keith Jardine didn’t seem to know how to deal with Rashad Evans.

He scored those big shots in third round and the fight looked like it was going to be stopped. But the rest of the fight, he just looked gassed. I also don’t remember Rampage ever being taken down as easily as he was being, even factoring the fact that Rashad was a collegiate wrestler for…I think Michigan State.

Obviously there’s going to be a rematch. If Rashad’s next fight his Shogun, it would make sense for Rampage to fight Lyoto Machida, or even Little Nog. I’d have both Jackson and Evans fighting on the same card next. If they both win (probably) or both lose, you automatically have the set up for Rampage vs. Rashad 2.

UFC 114 Results: What’s Next for Rashad Evans?

The most enjoyable thing aboot the 205 division is that there’s no one dominating the division and any fighter can be any other fighter on any other night. Last night was Rashad Evans’s night. He is easily becoming one of my favourite fighters, and last night was the best I’ve ever seen him.

I didn’t see his last fight and ANYTHING was an improvement over his fight with Lyoto Machida, but besides being faster and stronger than I’ve seen him, last night he was also smarter. He was smart enough to be more focused on winning the fight and less focused on knocking Rampage out, and didn’t panic in the third round where Rampage landed a few shots and another ref my have stopped the fight. He covered an earned a unanimous division victory.

Next up for Evans is obviously Shogun Rua, if I were to guess I’d say around September or October. My money is on him getting his belt back.

Song of the Day: Ball and Chain

Wasn’t Obama Supposed to be Competent?

Don’t get me wrong. I’m in the Jonah Goldberg camp where I’m, “…usually singing from the same “It’s Obama’s Fault and We Know It” songbook. But I just can’t bring myself to agree with the folks who think that the BP spill is a major indictment of Obama.” That said, I’m also a snarky asshole who revels in seeing Obama followers slowly start to realize that maybe Hillary Clinton was right aboot this guy.

First you have Chris Matthews, famous for the now infamous leg tingly he got whenever candidate Obama spoke. That was then. Yesterday, we went so far as to compare this to the way Jimmy Carter handled to Iran Hostage Crisis…which is pretty damn funny since a) it’s Chris Matthews, and b) he used to work for Jimmy Carter.

Then you have conservative laureate Peggy Noonan who, while not a follower like a lot of her colleagues in the media, was a lot more open minded aboot an Obama presidency than a lot of her colleagues on the right. From her latest prose, “He Was Supposed to be Competent….”

Random Thoughts: David Malpass

Add NYSYR Assemblyman of the Year Marc Molinaro to the list of people I admire who have endorsed David Malpass for US Senate. Here’s what he had to say…

“Albany is a mess and faces many of the same problems currently plaguing our federal government, but if we don’t have leaders in Washington working to put the country back on track, we will never be able to fix the problems on the state level,” said Assemblyman Molinaro. “David will be a strong voice for New York and I look forward to partnering with him as our next U.S. Senator.”

Also, with the NY Conservative Party nominating their candidates tonight, a lot has been made over feeling that Sen. D’Amato only endorsed Bruce Blakeman because he feels Blakeman would be the weakest candidate against Kristen Gillibrand…who D’Amato has ties to. Most of it seems to be coming from the third candidate Joe DioGuardi, and said the following in a recent release…

…Based on the new information about Blakeman, some Conservative Party members are switiching from Blakeman to Malpass

Fingers crossed.
