National Review Hearts David Malpass

“For over 20 years, I’ve been writing about and interviewing New York politicians. And it always frustrates, but never surprises, when politicians turn out to be clueless on economics.” - Raymond J. Keating

Ok, so they don’t “heart” him in an official capacity. There was however a great interview with him that touches subtly on why I’m a David Malpass supporter. He’ll make a stellar Senator, but I want the debate more than anything else.

I want the debate in my own party that I feel we desperately need to see who knows the issues and who just knows the catchphrases , and I want the debate against the Democrats in this state who have gotten away with the class warfare rhetoric their union bosses write for them for way too long.

Malpass, along with cats like John Faso and Dan Senor, I feel can win both debates, and do so easily…

What Would Rick Lazio Do?

Many of us find ourselves asking “What Would Rick Lazio Do,” especially when you look at the mess Albany has become under Democrat control. This week is particularly entertaining because after being months late on a budget and raising taxes on cigarettes (making things awesome for already struggling convenience stores), the Democrats seem to be fighting amongst themselves.

I know Prince Andrew has been telling people he’s going to lower taxes, stand up to the unions, and fight the “status quo” of…um, his party running everything. If you want to believe that, you can. I sometimes like to believe I just defended the heavyweight title in Madison Square Garden.

But what would Rick Lazio do? This recent interview gives us some ideas…

Chris Christie Gets His Budget Passed

I’m cautiously optimistic about Chris Christie because while he says the right things and has us flocking to YouTube for his latest dose of “common sense porn” (it kills me to have to quote Glenn Beck), I still want to seem him get actual results before I put the Christie ’12 bumper sticker on the back of my car. I always draw comparisons to Sarah Palin who, after only being Governor for a year and saying the right things, we decided was ready to run for Vice President. Oops.

There was also Arnold Schwaretzenegger who was re-elected Governor, tried to get four ballot initiatives passed, and was trounced by the unions and other special interests in California. He didn’t try again after that, and I think California is more or less bankrupt.

So yeah, I wanna see results before getting too excited about Gov. Christie. Hey look! Results

Real Financial Reform with David Malpass

“Tough financial reforms are necessary and appropriate, but this bill fails to fix much of what’s wrong, and it badly hurts New York small businesses and job seekers in the process.”

With the passing of Sen. Robert Byrd and the confirmation hearings for Elena Kagan this week, it gives us a little time to catch up on what’s in the President’s financial “reform” bill. You know the drill by now: 2,000+ page bill, passes conference in the middle of the night, and if Republican’s disagree with it than their “anti-reform.”

Which considering there was a last minute tax hike to where the White House can no longer count on Sen. Scott Brown as the 60th vote, it’s safe to assume Republicans are going to have issues with the bill. More importantly, it’s a chance to point out that opposing the President doesn’t mean you’re “anti-reform,” it just means you think the bill being presented to you is a giant crap sandwich and you have other ideas on how to reform.

This is especially true when it comes to candidates who are running for Senate. David Malpass, God willing the next Senator of New York, the floor is yours
