UFC 116 Predictions

We’re a week away from UFC 116: Lesnar vs. Carwin, and I think I’m ready to make my predictions. Feel free to leave a comment and tell me how much I suck and that I know nothing aboot the mixed martial arts. I love it when people do that!

PRELIMINARY
I like Brendan Schaub over Chris Tuchscherer and Seth Petruzelli over Ricardo Romero.

UNDERCARD
I’ll take George Sotiropoulos over Kurt Pellegrino. Ever since Sotiropoulos has left training in Long Island for Las Vegas, he’s looked great.

Stephan Bonnar vs. Krzysztof Soszynski is a rematch from their first fight that Soszynski won after an accidental headbutt that bust Bonner open. I’m still going to take Soszynski. Save for the Brandon Vera fight, he’s looked great since appearing on The Ultimate Fighter.

Song of the Day: Want To

Random Thoughts: Conservatism in New York

I posted David Malpass appearance on Larry Kudlow (and stated my preference for him here, here, here and here), but I felt this quote needed special attention. Could it work?

“I think as long as they stuck to the idea that we’ve spent more money than we have and we can’t raise taxes because that’s going to drive jobs away and businesses away, then there’s going to be a democratic – a small-d democratic – political process that makes better choices on spending. And if only Washington could get that message, I think we’d be in much better shape.”

Jeb Bush to Obama: Give it a Rest

Apparently we aren’t the only one’s who are sick of hearing President Obama STILL blaming George Bush for everything. So sayeth the Bush who should have been President, Jeb…

“It’s kind of like a kid coming to school saying, ‘The dog ate my homework,’ ” Mr. Bush, this state’s former governor, said over lunch last week at the Biltmore Hotel. “It’s childish. This is what children do until they mature. They don’t accept responsibility.”

In fact, instead of constantly bashing the 43rd president, Mr. Bush offered, perhaps Mr. Obama could learn something from him, especially when it comes to ignoring the Washington chatter. “This would break his heart, to get advice that applies some of the lessons of leadership my brother learned, because he apparently likes to act like he’s still campaigning, and he likes to blame George’s administration for everything,” Mr. Bush said, dangling a ketchup-soaked French fry. “But he really seems like he’s getting caught up in what people are writing about him.”

“I mean, good God, man, read a book!” Mr. Bush said with a laugh. “Go watch ESPN!”

Newt’s for Jobs

The time for this is perfect. On the same day the latest NBC/WSJ poll give President Obama a 50% disapproval rate in handling the economy; Newt Gingrich has a town hall meeting and an editorial in “Human Events” on how to create jobs.

The administration seems to have had a problem in that area. They passed the stimulus bill to guarantee unemployment would stay below 8%. Now that unemployment is hovering around 10%, all they seem to have is an energy bill that might create “green jobs” to replace all of the current energy sector jobs it’s going to kill. Not a lot of promise.

Here comes Newt Gingrich once again, with more of those ideas the media likes to claim we don’t have…

What do Nikki Haley and Tim Scott have in Common?

It’s not that they have darker skin than me. It’s odd though because I swore that NBC News (which unlike Fox is a serious news organization) kept reporting that the Tea Party is anti-black and anti-woman. Hopefully one day journalists like Keith Olberman and Chris Mathews can learn to judge someone by the content of their character and not the color of their skin.

No, what Nikki Haley and Tim Scott represent are a new crop of Republicans who are getting back to their small government conservative roots, which unless you’re bathing in Kool Aid, you know we’ve strayed from. And if that means running against the establishment of their own party as hard as they would the Democrats, so be it.

Who knew South Carolina would be such a hotbed for this “progressive conservatism?” So sayeth the Washington Examiner…
