Song of the Day: No One’s Gonna Love You

Reps. Paul Ryan and Jeb Hensarling: Who Wants $1.3 Trillion?

Democrats aren’t even going to propose a budget this year, the first time Congress hasn’t even proposed on since 1974. You could argue that with an election coming up that Dems don’t want to give the voters any more reason to hate their spending and taxing, but Reps. Paul Ryan and Jeb Hensarling aren’t hearing any of that noise. Not only do they want a budget, but they want spending cuts as well.

This is where people point out that “you Republicans always say you want spending cuts but never say what you’re going to cut” and say something derogatory towards George Bush. That is true, and yes, George Bush was terrible when it came to borrowing and spending. He also hasn’t been in office for over two years, and the last two years he was there was with the Dems in control of both the House and the Senate. Just saying.

As for what to cut, Ryan and Hensarling not only have specifics, they have specifics to the tune of $1.3 TRILLION. An overview…

My Exclusive Interview with Tom Coburn

Ok, so it’s not MY exclusive interview as much as it is John King’s from CNN. I’m not even sure it was exclusive. Hey, I at least got the “…with Tom Coburn” part right. You have to at least give me that.

Besides, this is the same Tom Coburn who I consider the godfather of the “Shut Up and Govern” Republicans. Whenever I get that look of distain from a closed minded and intolerant liberal who want to know how I can be “one of those people” who believe in things like torture and Jesus, Coburn is one of the guys I point to as a serious cat who is in DC to deal with serious issues.

Most recently, wanting to amend the President’s financial reform bill (that doesn’t really reform) so that there’s more transparency in how and when our tax dollars are being spent. So sayeth Dr. No…

Chris Christie for…VICE President?

Chris Christie is not running for President. He said he’s not running for President. It makes no sense for him to run for President. It’s still hard for someone who is increasing growing as popular as he is to NOT have people call on him to run, especially when many of us on the Right are bored with who our side has right now.

But what aboot Vice-President? He’d make a great running mate for any Republican candidate, and if he was asked to run by our candidate for President it would be hard for him to say no. My personal opinion is that this is just crazy talk.

Dave Weigel does make a good case though…

Random Thoughts: Gen. McChrystal and Rolling Stone

I’ve been thinking aboot this Gen. McChrystal/Rolling Stone Magazine kerfuffle all day, and I’ve come to the following…

1. I agree with the criticism that McChrystal must go. Had this been Larry Summers or Tim Geitner giving a blistering criticism of their boss – and resigning afterward – I’d admire their candor. McChrystal isn’t a cabinet member. He’s the top general over seeing a war at the direction of the COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF. You disagree and argue with him in the Situation Room. You then stand up and say “Thank You, Mr. President.”

2. I also agree, somewhat, with the people questioning what is going on behind the scenes re: our war strategy. If he felt this frustrated, there are serious questions to be asked while acknowledging McChrystal was completely out of line.

3. Anyone notice the one person he didn’t criticize was Hillary Clinton?

Brock Lesnar to Fedor: You Suck

The big question is how Fedor Emelianenko would do in the UFC, and if he’s really as good as the hype. We might never know, since last week he said he wasn’t a fan of the UFC…and this week he’s rumoured to be at least thinking of retiring.

Current UFC Heavyweight Champion Brook Lesnar isn’t impressed

“Good for Fedor, I hope he does retire.” Lesnar commented. “He’s the greatest champion of all time. He’s the greatest champion ever, of all time, in his own little world. Good for him. Absolutely [I can beat him]. I can beat anybody.”

You can’t call yourself the best until you’ve beaten all the best, and if Fedor is seriously planning on retiring before facing anyone in the UFC Heavyweight division, it’s a punk move.

And while Brock is still a little bit of hype himself (he’s only 4-1), ending Shane Carwin’s undefeated streak and then Cain Velasquez after than…he’ll have a lot more behind his calling out Fedor.
