Conservative Class Warfare

Interesting piece from Ross Douhat. I’ve blogged before aboot Democrat class warfare, where they manipulate people into thinking that anyone who makes more money than you is evil and corrupt by default, and how they owe you some their money since they’re evil and corrupt. Douhat suggests tackling class warfare from the right.

Not a battle between you vs. anyone who has more money than you (and not like this and this), but a battle between the people who are gaming the system vs. the rest of us. Whether it’s “corporate welfare” or “gaming” the system, there are a number of ways where Democrat policies are being manipulated by the same evil and corrupt rich people they like to demagogue, and they’re the one’s who are benefiting most while we pay for it in higher taxes.

So sayeth Ross…

4.5 Million Reasons Why Marco Rubio is Just Fine

I recently blogged aboot Marco Rubio possibly peaking too soon, and concluded “…if Rubio is still raising ridonkulous money, I think everyone just needs to take a deep breath.” Is $4.5 million in 2Q ridonkulous enough?

From the candidate

“With each supporter and idea, our campaign continues to prove that Floridians want their next U.S. senator to be a check and balance against Washington’s big spending agenda, while offering a clear, conservative alternative. I continue to be humbled and energized by the outpouring of support we’re receiving from voters who recognize that I’m the only candidate in this race who will go to Washington, stand up to the big spenders in both parties and preserve the limited government principles that have made America exceptional.

“A year ago, many were convinced that a principled campaign against the big spending Obama-Pelosi-Crist-Meek agenda stood no chance in the face of better-funded and more popular opponents. A year later, I’m thankful that our supporters have always understood what the stakes are in this election and have rallied behind us to create this movement. Today’s announcement marks another important grassroots milestone on our way to ensuring our message is heard loud and clear throughout Florida this fall.”

Obama Hearts the Politics of Fear

“But folks are tired of the games, and are ready for change. The mantra for the GOP might be ‘nationalize and energize.’”

I found this article amusing because the author, Mark McKinnon, was part of Team McCain in the 2008 primaries…but left once the general election started because he didn’t want to run against Barack Obama. He admired Obama and liked his positive message of hope and change. Why McCain ’08 even kept him on the campaign knowing he was going to leave is a blog post for another time.

Either way, like most moderates who supported Sen. Obama in the primaries are were filled with both hope and/or change, they’re beginning to realize he was all talk (or even realize that Hillary Clinton was right about him all along). This is clear going into 2010, as President Hopeandchange’s entire midterm election message seems to be the same politics of fear that the Left used to criticize George Bush and Karl Rove for.

But when you have nothing else to run on…

Paul Ryan’s Roadmap to Victory in 2010

Last year, I showed up at my Young Republican meeting with copies of Paul Ryan’s “Roadmap for America’s Future.” My concern with local politics is that it’s too much patronage and not enough policy, and I thought the “Roadmap” would be a good way to spark a conversation with anyone interested enough it reading it. Sure enough, little by little, I’ve been converting quite a number of Paul Ryan fans.

The rub is that GOP leadership seems to be afraid to adapt any big ideas. We discussed this in a previous post; the old guard wants to just run against the Democrats, the new guard knows that doing so will only go so far without fresh ideas of our own. Ryan’s “Roadmap” is aboot as bold an idea as they come.

This was highlighted recently in the Weekly Standard, where Fred Barnes gave three reasons why the GOP should run on it in 2010. Number three I felt was most important…
