Speaker Boehner: Bite Me, I Like to Smoke

I don’t smoke. I don’t necessarily enjoy being around smoke. The worst thing aboot New York’s smoking ban is that I can’t step outside of a bar to get fresh air…because that’s where all the smokers are. That said, it’s a legal product and if people choose to smoke…eh.

That’s why I love this answer from Speaker John Boehner. While the Obama Campaign ties itself in knots trying to explain the President’s struggle with smoking that he’s had for some time, he’s how Boehner responded on Fox News Sunday when ask why he doesn’t quit…

Oh, why do we bring this up again? You know, smoking. It’s a bad habit but I have it. And it’s a legal product. I choose to smoke. Leave me alone.

‘Nuff said.

Jack’s Mannequin – I’m Ready

Monday Mitch: The Kidz Heart Mitch Daniels

“In my opinion, Daniels could be the bridge between the Tea Party and the GOP, the right and the center, and conservatism and youth.” - Max Eden, National Director, Students for Daniels

There is a “Draft Mitch Daniels” movement happening right now, only it’s not from policy nerds, lobbyists, or the big donors. It’s starting with college students from that bastion of conservative thought…Yale University. Yes, at first it sounds like a bad joke, but they already have THIRTY-FIVE other chapters throughout the country (something that surprised me when I interviewed their political director on The Right Hook), and most recently aired the first commercial of the 2012 season in Iowa and New Hampshire.

That’s right. The first commercial wasn’t from Mitt Romney or Sarah Palin. It was from college students looking to draft their candidate.

As impressive as it sounds (admittedly, I’m a Daniels supporter), they have drawn some criticism. This is what Matt Lewis had posted on the Twitters…

Jon Huntsman 2012? Surely you can’t be serious…

According to Politico this morning, the Obama Campaign is preparing itself for Ambassador to China (and former Utah Governor) Jon Huntsman to resign his post and launch a campaign for the Republican presidential nomination. Huntsman was rumoured to be considering a run a few years ago when he was named Ambassador, and the belief among many is that the Obama Campaign did that to take him out of the race.

Political had an interesting read, and discounting the fact that our field of candidates is a little lackluster to say the least, three things:

1. Huntsman isn’t a serious candidate. He’s a media narrative.

2. If he does run, a former Obama administration official is not going to win the Republican primary.

3. If he does win, the media will turn on him as quick as ferociously as they did John McCain in 2008.

Rear Naked Blog: UFC 126 Predictions

UFC 126: Silva vs. Belfort is less than a week away, where Anderson Silva hopes to continue his win streak against Vitor Belfort. The undercard also includes two fights to see which fighter will stay in contention for the light heavyweight title. Let’s get it on…

PRELIMINARY’S
I like Donald Cerrone over Paul Kelly and Michihiro Omigawa over Chad Mendes (I hate anyone named Chad).

UNDERCARD
Next to the main event, I think the Ryan Bader vs. Jon Jones fight is the most exciting fight on the card. Both fighters are contenders in the division. Both fighters are even matched. And while Bader has a undefeated 12-0 record, Jones would also if not for a disqualification loss. I see both fighters at 11-1 after this, as Jones goes over Bader.

Miguel Torres is a former WEC champion, and just simply a sick, sick fighter. I can’t imagine him losing his UFC debut, so he beats Antonio Banuelos.

Attention Seniors: President Obama wants to Take Your Social Security Away!

What a ridiculous title!  But isn’t that baby cute?

We need to talk aboot social security reform this year whether people like it or not. It was a nice idea at first in the 1930s. The government was going to take money out of your paycheck every week and save it for your retirement for you, and then give it back to you when you turned 65. The fact that they were counting on you dying at 62…meh.

But now, when there’s all of two workers for every one recipient, and we start running social security deficits next year as opposed to 2016 when we thought, it’s time to be serious for a minute…which is aboot all the topic got in President Obama’s State of the Union. “No current retiree’s will be at risk.” Yeah, no one is suggesting they should or will be, Sparky.

The battle is coming. You know one side is going to do everything they can to use the politics of fear and scare old people into thinking the other side is coming to take their benefits away. But where do most other people stand? e21 has a handy list identifying the five basic “factions” when it comes to social security reform…
