Monday Mitch: Mitch Daniels vs. ObamaCare (w/ video)

ObamaCare and/or the Republican alternative is going to be a top issue in 2012, and the knock when it comes to Mitt Romney is that his “RomneyCare” is too similar. But what if the candidate has a plan that was the polar opposite of ObamaCare? What if the candidate is a Governor of a state that ObamaCare is negatively affecting his state. Enter Mitch Daniels…the newly crowned “hearthrob of the elites.”
I’ve written aboot Indiana developing “health savings accounts”, and aboot how popular they are with the people of Indiana. Now he wants to use the plan, “Healthy Indiana,” to help bolster Medicaid in his state, but the Obama campaign is having none of it. Remember that if we liked out health care plan, we could keep it?
Citing Democratic promises that those who are happy with their current health insurance would be able to keep it under the new health care law, Daniels said the federal government’s handling of the Healthy Indiana Plan is calling those promises into question. The Healthy Indiana Plan currently covers about 45,000 Hoosiers. The Medicaid waiver authorizing its existence expires at the end of 2012, and Daniels said if Indiana won’t be able to use it to cover new Medicaid enrollees, the state will have to close it down.
The Governor spoke aboot this recently with the Heritage Foundation (yeah, I know…Koch/boogeyman/money/special interests…whatever) and laid out what I think would be an effective argument for a Presidential candidate running against ObamaCare to make. Have a listen…
