The YRs of Summer: My First Ever Town Hall Meeting

This Thursday I’m leaving the comfort of the Right Hook EIB Studios (aka my basement) and will be making my first ever personal appearance when I moderate the equally first ever “YRs of Summer” Town Hall meeting here on Long Island. I was going to talk about the genesis of the event (since it’s kinda, sorta my creation) during my opening remarks.

Then I realized that me having any opening remarks in the first place takes away from YRs engaging with their YR elected officials, which is the whole point, this made more sense. To paraphrase that great conservative scholar Lynyrd Skynyrd, “All I can do is blog about it.”

Let’s start with a video presentation at just what a “YRs of Summer” Town Hall meeting is, since I know you are all on the edge of your seat right now. Better yet, just watch this video advertising it…

Mitt Romney: The Best of the Rest?

I’ve got something to say aboot the 2012 primaries that is going to blow your mind: It’s between Mitt Romney and not Mitt Romney. Shocking, right? Never mind the fact that the not-Mitt forces are the same people who were pro-Mitt in 2008 and thought he was the true conservative, second coming of Reagan, three legged stool, etc. This is where we are at. Mitt vs. Not Mitt.

I don’t have a dog in the hunt. I was more pro-Mitt right after 2008 (once I finally realized how much of an embarrassing train wreck John McCain turned out to be), but now I’m just pro whoever I think will be the best chance to defeat President Hopeandchange in 2012.

It just so happens that right now, that person happens to be Romney. Without getting into who is the truuuuuer conservative (any of our candidates would be better than one we have), there are three areas I think are important:

Medicare, Messaging, and My Mom

People in my family and at work tend to turn to me as the resident political analyst whenever they have a question aboot something in the news or the 2012 erections. Apparently it’s assumed that by being both the host of the awesomely awesome “The Right Hook” and your 2011 New York State Young Republican of the Year, I have any idea what the hell I’m talking aboot. I know, right?

This brings me to my mom. She called me this morning to ask, “What’s this with the Republicans doing something to Medicare and Social Security?” She had heard on the news that they wanted to move to age to sixty-seven, do away with it, end it as we know it, place leftist talking point here. Her main concern was the age, because she’s sixty-two now.

VIDEO: Sen. Rubio Shatters the Myth that Tax Increases are a Debt Solution On Senate Floor

The Lloyd Dobler Guide to Podcasting

My main focus on The Right Hook as of late has been to book as many guests as possible. I figure, we’re a talk show, it increases the shows profile, plus as long as I have a guest on the show they can do most of the talking and I don’t have think of stuff to say as I sit in my basement talking to no one on a microphone. It’s a win, win, win.

But of all the guests we’ve had on lately, no one seems to have shocked more people than S.E. Cupp. Never mind the fact that it was her second time on the show, this time I had a lot of people ask me, “how did you pull that off?”

It got me thinking of the various websites/blogs I’ve run over the years (politics, pro wrestling, music, etc.) and a bit of dialogue from the movie “Say Anything” that has helped me with all of them.
