Giving Thanks 2011

“For His anger endures but for a moment; in His favor is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.” – Psalm 30:5

I’m thankful for God in Heaven, who I hope hasn’t grown tired of my dad’s jokes yet.

I’m thankful for my mom, whose strength puts Nancy Reagan to shame.

I’m thankful for the next generation of Brodigan who will be welcomed into the world this Spring.

I’m thankful for my brother-in-law Keith. The added stress of suddenly being the, for lack of a better phrase, “man of the house” was made easier because I know after these past two months that, Heaven forbid something ever happened to me, I have complete faith and trust that Keith would be there to take care of the only two things that matter to me: my mom and my sister.

I’m thankful for a fifteen minute conversation I had with retired detectives Danny Kotter and Jerry Fenney.

Gingrich and The Brain

One is a genius. The other is…a brain. Folks, these are the jokes.

Yes, I saw the latest poll that shows Newt Gingrich to be the most competitive against Barack Obama. Good news, but my stance on polls this early stands…they change drastically week to week, and if we’re being honest, only matter if they’re good news for your candidate. Plus, I don’t want to acknowledge the poll that has Ron Paul in second place in Iowa.

There was an article I found more interesting then Gingrich only being two points down from Obama (and beating him with Independents). Byron York wrote about the former Speakers “wonky and unconventional” campaign, and had this to say about a recent meeting with a trio of scientists…

Occupy the Octagon (or, Cut the Bullshit New York and Legalize MMA)

The latest in the struggle to get mixed martial arts legalized in New York is the UFC (or more specifically, parent company Zuffa) suing the state on the grounds that MMA not being legal violates their first amendment rights or something. Sound frivolous? Yes. But, this is New York and I think it speaks more to the frustration that Albany refuses to get it done.

It’s hard to see a reason why it’s not getting done, other than a culinary union having a dispute with the owners of the UFC over something unrelated to the sport or even the state of NY, and the Democrat leadership in the NY Assembly being a whole owned subsidiary of Big Labor. Here’s the thing though…the votes are there. Anyone I’ve spoken too says the voters are there. The Governor will sign the bill as soon as it reaches his desk. Leadership just won’t call a vote.

Cut the bullshit.

11/17: OWS and UFC on The Right Hook

Have a rough day? Feeling alone? Confused? Just thrown out of the private park you were illegally squatting in? Well wipe those tears away and settle down for your weekly dose of right wing extremism. That’s right kids. It’s political podcasting answer to Sodom and Gammorah, where the RINOs and the Radicals come together as one. Mic check. MIC CHECK! This is THE RIGHT HOOK!

So join your master of ceremonies Brodigan, voice for the voiceless and the heart and soul of YRs nationwide, as he bangs and clangs with some of your favourite regular guests.

First, we’ll be talking to Teri Christoph. Besides being a founder of Smart Girl Politics, Teri is also a board member for Project GOPink? What is Project GOPink you ask? Teri is happy to tells us all about it, as well as the big Women Working For Change conference in Washington DC this weekend.

Song of the Week: “Ours” by Taylor Swift

Don’t judge. Taylor Swift is a national treasure.  Plus, this version sure is pretty…

Marco Rubio Sold Out the Conservative Movement

Well no, he didn’t sell out in the “rational” sense. It’s just that whenever you hear the words “bi-partisan” or “compromise” there’s someone who accuses you of selling out, and let’s be honest…it got you to click the link.

I just wanted to draw attention to this because you hear a lot in the media that “both sides” won’t work together to create jobs and get people working. Of course when you hear the media say that, they usually mean the Republicans won’t do whatever President Obama tells them to, but that’s not the issue here.

What is at issue is a bipartisan jobs plan between two freshman Senators, Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Chris Coons (D-DE). I link to the plan on Rubio’s page, just because I don’t want to link to the editorial in Politico.

Your thoughts? Here’s the bulletpoints…
