What Color is the Sky in Jon Huntsman’s World?

Cats are getting more and more unhinged when you say anything about their candidate or come out in support for anyone who isn’t their candidate, so for the sake of full disclosure, I’m a Gingrich guy. That said, when I read a headline like “Once GOP race settles, Huntsman likes his chances, I’m curious as to what race single digit Jon Huntsman thinks he’s running in.

This isn’t your typical “conservative calls someone RINO” blog post. I could give a damn that he wrote a nice letter to the President, and wanted to give him a chance. I know a lot of those meddling kids who were Students for Daniels switched to Huntsman, and that alone was enough for me to take a second look.

And when I did, I saw a lot of what I liked…

My Speech to the New York YRs on the Importance of Local Races

I was recently the master of ceremonies at a fundraiser for Walden Mayor (and future Assembly candidate) Brian Maher. Prior to bringing him on, I spoke a little on the importance of local races…

Before I introduce the reason where here today. I just want to talk about the reason WHY we’re here, which is the importance of local races.

Like you, I came off of 2010 fired up and full of energy. This is great, we took back the Congress, he took back state houses, we took back Governorships and elected a ton of great Republicans to bring us into 2012 where we’re going to take back the White House. And I look at the candidates we have running for President who are going to take it to Obama, and all I can say is…meh.

For my 20,000th Tweet, I’m Endorsing Newt Gingrich for President

Yes, that Newt Gingrich.

Now, before we go any further, everyone get it out of your system:

Three wives, baggage, Dede Scozzafava, RINO, Tiffany’s, I thought you said you were dropping out of the race, commercial with Nancy Pelosi, I don’t like the suits he wears…

Ok, are we good? Let’s continue.

I’ve been thinking about this for while, since before I suggested taking a second look at Newt. I see the 2012 race unfolding one of two ways:

Tom Croci and the Dumbest Political Attack Ever

Tom Croci is a guy on Long Island running for Islip Town Supervisor, and someone I’m  admittedly a fan of. He had me at “this has to be something more than just patronage jobs,” something that neither party always seems to understand, especially at the local level.

Apparently his opponent (the incumbent) has a mailer going around, questioning is he’s even an Islip resident and that he really lives in Washington DC. My guess is that he’s trying to go for some of the anti-D.C. sentiment. And yes, for the past two years, Croci did live in Washington.

Here’s the rub though: he didn’t “live” there or choose to work there…he was STATIONED there. From a recent editorial by State Sen. Lee Zeldin:

VIDEO: Newt Gingrich on His Plan to Boost American Manufacturing

Whoo hoo, ideas!

On Ed Koch, the Muppets, and the Last Schmaltzy Post Aboot My Dad

One of my goals in life was to see former NYC Mayor Ed Koch at a fundraiser somewhere, just so could walk up to him and say that I loved him in “The Muppets Take Manhattan.”

It’s the best cameo in the history of cinema. Gonzo runs up to him to ask if he’s seen a frog who could sing and dance. The Mayor: “No, but if he can also balance the budget, I’ll hire him.” Sadly, a video clip doesn’t exist of this on teh internets, so you’ll just have to trust me on its comedic value. It was with this in mind that I remembered it didn’t hurt to send an e-mail, and after finding an e-mail address I asked and his assistant said yes.

I set it for November 1st. I was taking the day off from work anyway since it was (or would have been) my dad’s birthday, so since I had time during the afternoon and it fit in to the Mayor’s schedule, it was set. When I told my mom this morning, she said, “That’s nice that you’re doing it today. Dad would have liked it.”
