Quote of the Moment

‎”I am long past looking for my President or my Presidential nominee to be my Savior or to be my Pastor. I am looking for someone that’s prepared to do the heavy lifting to get us where we all want to be; and, I think, where we need to be.” - J.C. Watts

I purposely left off who he is talking aboot because I think what he said is more important, especially as the cult-like fanaticism some people have towards their preferred candidate gets increasingly out of hand.

And that’s not even including the Palinistas and Paultards.

Boehner’s Out: Paul Ryan for Speaker of the House

Since the rumours have started that John Boehner may be out as Speaker in 2012, let’s start the rumours aboot Paul Ryan being IN as Speaker of the House. For the sake of time and getting this done before the boss gets here, I’ll skip over all the reasons why that you already know and focus on one…he can have the debate.

The reason so many of us support Newt Gingrich despite his flaws, is that when most people only know the ten word answers to get them elected, he can have the debate on why conservatism beats liberalism. Paul Ryan is one of the few who can have that debate, doesn’t have the baggage, and can make the case for conservatism without scaring off independent and moderate America.

The Hidden Conservatism of the Property Brothers

My moms likes to watch HGTV. It started with “Trading Spaces” and because she was watching while recovering from breast cancer (ten years a survivor), I had started watching with her, which ten years later has involved into all over the home improvement/real estate shows. And just this past weekend, I noticed a hidden conservative message in them.

Most “reality” shows are aboot how much you can spend whenever you can spend it, and I’m not even talking aboot the celebrities’ ones. Any wedding show can be summed up with nine words: “Mine, Mine, Mine, I Want, I Want, I Want.” But the homes shows are different…you see people operating within a budget.

Tom Reed and Nan Hayworth Elected Prom King and Queen of the NY GOP

Interesting article in Politico, where they took a look back at the first year of the Freshman Class on 2010, giving out those cheesy awards you usually give to seniors in High School. Though while it was done tounge-in-cheek, New York did quite well for itself…

Rep. Tom Reed was runner-up for Most Likely to Succeed: Ask those close to leadership who their favorite freshmen are, and this New York Republican immediately comes to mind. Ever since he won a special election to replace Eric Massa last year, Reed has been central to leadership’s dealings with the freshmen. And he was rewarded for that with a conference committee position on the payroll tax bill (though he may not thank them for it forever.) If Reed survives New York’s redistricting process, expect him to be a player in future sessions.

Nan Hayworth wins for Most Likable: The ophthalmologist from New York and first-time lawmaker runs all over the Capitol complex in pink heels, never breaks with the Republican Party message and probably could befriend a brick wall if she spent a few minutes talking to it.

Not Romney Screwed Not Romney: Viriginia Edition

This story broke just before I swore of politics for Christmas, but now that I’m back…is Mitt Romney the only one serious about running for President? Because this debacle in Virginia is just embarrassing.

Long story short, Mitt Romney is the only candidate who will be on the ballot for the Virginia primary. NO OTHER CAMPAIGN GOT THE NECESSARY SIGNATURES TO BE ON THE BALLOT (with the exception of that clown Ron Paul). Granted the rules were changed slightly after a lawsuit from last year…which I might be willing to take into account if the other candidates had never run for office before in their lives, and therefore never knew that there are a certain amount of signatures you need to petition your way on to any ballot.
