“I’m not quoting numbers from the Rubio-Crist race until I see Rubio has won and the results are certified in blood.” - Melissa Clouthier
I agree with Melissa sentiments, and this race is too important to get lazy and/or cocky on. That said…
The conventional wisdom with Florida Senate polls, at least the CW that we Marco Rubio supporters clung too, was that a) Charlie Crist’s lead was inflated by the BP Gulf crisis, and b) a Kendrick Meeks victory would cause the Democrats who were flirting with Crist to come home to the fold and back Meeks.
Florida voters go to the polls today, and all indications are Meeks winning the Democrat primary in a blowout. Rubio already has the Republican nomination. Crist? I give you Public Policy Polling…

I’m not always that fair to John Boehner. I make fun of his tan, and usually find myself on the Cantor/Ryan/McCarthy side of any rumoured leadership struggles. The Minority Leader did speak honestly aboot Social Security recently, but other than that…meh.
Today, however, he’s making me a fan and starting to take the fight to the Obama Campaign.
It was only a matter of time. The election season kicks into overdrive in a few weeks, plus the Democrats have already started to paint Boehner as their enemy du joir. Today he started to push back, and it wasn’t over the 14th Amendment or a mosque, it was over the ECONOMY…

With taking control of the House as a possibility – one none of us felt was possible a year and a half ago – I expect our candidates this year to stay focused on the economy and ignore the various other issues that have made this August the silliest silly season EVAH! It’s nice to see Eric Cantor agree.
One of the concerns with the Republicans taking over the house again so quickly is whether or not we’ve learned out lessons from the last time we pissed away leadership. I have my doubts when some on our side seem more focused on constitutional amendments you know they’re never going do anything aboot, or a Mosque that outside of New York should be an issue, than they are on the economy.
I think all Republicans running for the House or Senate this year needs to focus on five issues and five issues only: jobs, jobs, jobs, debt, and jobs. That’s why I found it promising for the would be House Majority Leader to say…

After Election Day 2008, Republicans weren’t expecting to be in majority any time soon. What we were expected even less was for the Democrat Party to be as incompetent as they have been. Now Republicans look poised to retake the House…but are we ready?
First, let me just say I agree with strategist Mike Murphy…the best way for the GOP to take the house is to STOP SAYING THEY’RE GOING TO TAKE THE HOUSE. If we do, the big question is if our elected officials have learned their lessons from the last time they were in power. 1994 was a great year. 1997 or so the wheels started to come off. 2004 to 2006ish…now we’re getting to why so many people hate us.
Let’s say we do win in November and are back in control. The Wall Street Journal lays out a number of things we need to keep in mind…
This is my first time really paying attention to NY politics, so maybe this is the way it’s usually done and I’m simply naïve to think otherwise. But there were two recent articles about two Long Island congressional races that I feel illustrate why so many people my age don’t waste their time in politics.
Just to put it out there, I’m all in for Randy Altschuler (NY-1) and Frank Scaturro (NY-4), the two candidates the articles happen to favor. I’ve blogged aboot their races here and here. I’m also pro-primary…when there are differences to debate, and when the voters than get to make their choice.
We start in the NY-1, where the establishment’s interference may or may not have affected our Gubernatorial and Senate races as well. Kim Strassel from the Wall Street Journal goes into more detail, but a snippet…
