Rear Naked Blog: UFC 126 Predictions

UFC 126: Silva vs. Belfort is less than a week away, where Anderson Silva hopes to continue his win streak against Vitor Belfort. The undercard also includes two fights to see which fighter will stay in contention for the light heavyweight title. Let’s get it on…

PRELIMINARY’S
I like Donald Cerrone over Paul Kelly and Michihiro Omigawa over Chad Mendes (I hate anyone named Chad).

UNDERCARD
Next to the main event, I think the Ryan Bader vs. Jon Jones fight is the most exciting fight on the card. Both fighters are contenders in the division. Both fighters are even matched. And while Bader has a undefeated 12-0 record, Jones would also if not for a disqualification loss. I see both fighters at 11-1 after this, as Jones goes over Bader.

Miguel Torres is a former WEC champion, and just simply a sick, sick fighter. I can’t imagine him losing his UFC debut, so he beats Antonio Banuelos.

Real Naked Blog: GSP vs Anderson, Brian Stann vs Wanderlai, and more…

Whenever there’s a UFC even at President Dana White does Q&A, there’s always a ton of news that comes out of it and this past “Tribute to the Troops” was no exception. Most of this has been interpolated from MMAJunkie.com

GSP vs. Anderson Silva - According to Dana, providing they beat their next opponents (Jake Shields and Vitor Belfort) not only are we getting this match, we’re getting it this year. The deal is that St. Pierre would move up to 185 permanently, which would vacate the 170 title. The way I see it, the UFC gets one to three fights out of the two of them. If Silva wins, that’s it and he probably goes to 205. If GSP wins, Silva gets a rematch…and possibly the fans get a trilogy. Either way, boo Shields and boo Belfort, I hope you both lose.

Brian Stann vs. Wanderlai Silva - This fight is the one I’m most looking forward too, because I’m a huge fan of Brian Stann, who after beating Chris Leben last month called out Wanderlai. The UFC is working on making it happen, and depending on what happens with the GSP/Anderson fight, could there possibly be title implications? A Silva vs. Silva fight would be sick.

POLL: Who would win, Georges St. Pierre or Anderson Silva?

It’s the fight most UFC fans are salivating for, and UFC president Dana White is finally warming up to the idea. Could 2011 be the year we finally get the answer of who’s the pound for pound best: Georges St. Pierre or Anderson Silva?

A few things have to happen. First, both guys need to finish cleaning out their divisions. GSP will do that with a win over Jake Shields. Anderson has to get past Vitor Belfort, and possibly the winner of a Wanderlei Silva/Chael Sonnen fight.

The other thing is deciding what weight class they’d fight at. While a catch weight is possible, the most likely would be GSP leaving the welterweight division and bulking up to 185 to making a run as a middleweight.

So who would win? My gut tells me Georges St. Pierre, but I’d like to hear you all think. You can vote in the poll and/or give your best MMA analysis in the comment section…

UFC 117 Predictions: Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen

Anderson Silva upset a lot of people – and his boss – in his last fight. Chael Sonnen is a fighter who, from what we’re being told, won’t allow any boredom or show boating from Silva. Your UFC 117 predictions begin now!

UNDERCARD
The Jon Fitch vs. Thiago Alves is the one I’m most looking forward to. Fitch beat Alves in their first fight, but Alves isn’t the same fighter he was then. He also hasn’t fought since recently under going brain surgery. I’m still going to take Alves here, most likely setting uo Alves vs. Fitch III as the main event of an Ultimate Fight Night some time next year.

Clay Guida vs. Rafael Dos Anjos is a coin toss, and one where Guida beat Anjos six time to four. Yes, I actually flip a coin. Guida wins.

Look Out 205, Here Comes Anderson Silva

Originally the plan was that Anderson Silva had to get past Chael Sonnen AND Vitor Belfort before vacating the title. According to UFC President Dana White, he will have cleaned out the division and it would be time for him to move up to the 205 division. It would appear that Dana changed his mind, because he said at the recent UFC Fan Expo, “He’s got to get through this fight with Chael, and then we’re going to start talking about him going to 205.”

No word on why he changed his mind, but the decision makes a lot of sense from a promotions standpoint. The light heavyweight division has no one clear dominate fighter, so there’s a wealth of new challenges for Anderson Silva…all of which could headline and sell out a show. When he vacates the title, the UFC will need a BIG match to determine a new champion. If you look at the talent they have and/or might come close to signing, I can’t think of a bigger fight that Vitor Belfort vs. current Strikeforce champ Jake Shield.

It would also leave two fighter left for Anderson to challenge if 205 doesn’t work out for him (doubtful), or he just wants to step down to 185 on occasion to remind everyone what his name is.
