Boehner’s Out: Paul Ryan for Speaker of the House

Since the rumours have started that John Boehner may be out as Speaker in 2012, let’s start the rumours aboot Paul Ryan being IN as Speaker of the House. For the sake of time and getting this done before the boss gets here, I’ll skip over all the reasons why that you already know and focus on one…he can have the debate.

The reason so many of us support Newt Gingrich despite his flaws, is that when most people only know the ten word answers to get them elected, he can have the debate on why conservatism beats liberalism. Paul Ryan is one of the few who can have that debate, doesn’t have the baggage, and can make the case for conservatism without scaring off independent and moderate America.

The Hidden Conservatism of the Property Brothers

My moms likes to watch HGTV. It started with “Trading Spaces” and because she was watching while recovering from breast cancer (ten years a survivor), I had started watching with her, which ten years later has involved into all over the home improvement/real estate shows. And just this past weekend, I noticed a hidden conservative message in them.

Most “reality” shows are aboot how much you can spend whenever you can spend it, and I’m not even talking aboot the celebrities’ ones. Any wedding show can be summed up with nine words: “Mine, Mine, Mine, I Want, I Want, I Want.” But the homes shows are different…you see people operating within a budget.

Second Look at Jon Huntsman?

Teh internets are going all apeshit because of Erick Erickson’s scathing take down of Mitt Romney, where he “endorsed” a second look at Jon Huntsman. I had mentioned last week that I had wanted to give him a chance, but if we do take a second look, the riddle me this…

His entire base seems to be the media who a) doesn’t vote in Republican primaries, and b) doesn’t vote for Republican’s in the general. So how does Huntsman go from 2% in the polls to where he’s competitive?

Conservative Class Warfare

Interesting piece from Ross Douhat. I’ve blogged before aboot Democrat class warfare, where they manipulate people into thinking that anyone who makes more money than you is evil and corrupt by default, and how they owe you some their money since they’re evil and corrupt. Douhat suggests tackling class warfare from the right.

Not a battle between you vs. anyone who has more money than you (and not like this and this), but a battle between the people who are gaming the system vs. the rest of us. Whether it’s “corporate welfare” or “gaming” the system, there are a number of ways where Democrat policies are being manipulated by the same evil and corrupt rich people they like to demagogue, and they’re the one’s who are benefiting most while we pay for it in higher taxes.

So sayeth Ross…

Marco Rubio: Yes He Can

“It’s going to require leaders who are willing to not only stand up to the Obama agenda, but offer clear alternatives as well.”

Townhall.com has a great editorial from Marco Rubio that illustrates why so many of us were early supporters. It’s no secret that we need more “happy warriors” in the vein of Ronald Reagan who besides opposing the current regime, present conservative alternatives. That’s why so many of us found it maddening when the NRSC originally endorsed the Republican who a) was not a happy warrior, b) didn’t oppose the current regime, and c) presented no ideas of his own.

It’s not enough to have the better idea though, if they aren’t properly communicated. We can blame the media all we want for pushing the “Party of No,” but if we’re being honest with ourselves we haven’t always done the best job of illustrating why our vision is better for country and putting into context why our ideas are better for the voters.

Enter Marco Rubio…

Can Switching to Paul Ryan Really Save You $1.3 Trillion Dollars?

Zoinks! The Republicans are actually starting to sound all Republicany.

The Democrat controlled Congress currently has no plans to pass a budget for the new fiscal year, something that the last one hundred and ten sessions of Congress have managed to do regardless of how bitterly divided it was. Yet, Nancy Pelosi with her 70+ majority isn’t even going to try…I guess mainly because they know they can’t justify themselves to the voters in the fall.

Enter the Party of No, led my JBdotC fav Rep. Paul Ryan, with…wait, this can’t be right. An idea how to save $1.3 Trillion dollars over the next decade? But…Paul Ryan is a Republican and the Republican’s are the Party of No. They just say no to everything without presenting an alternative.

To that I say, to paraphrase the great Western philosopher Paul Levesque, I have two words for you, SUCK IT
