Occupy the Octagon (or, Cut the Bullshit New York and Legalize MMA)

The latest in the struggle to get mixed martial arts legalized in New York is the UFC (or more specifically, parent company Zuffa) suing the state on the grounds that MMA not being legal violates their first amendment rights or something. Sound frivolous? Yes. But, this is New York and I think it speaks more to the frustration that Albany refuses to get it done.

It’s hard to see a reason why it’s not getting done, other than a culinary union having a dispute with the owners of the UFC over something unrelated to the sport or even the state of NY, and the Democrat leadership in the NY Assembly being a whole owned subsidiary of Big Labor. Here’s the thing though…the votes are there. Anyone I’ve spoken too says the voters are there. The Governor will sign the bill as soon as it reaches his desk. Leadership just won’t call a vote.

Cut the bullshit.

Real Naked Blog: GSP vs Anderson, Brian Stann vs Wanderlai, and more…

Whenever there’s a UFC even at President Dana White does Q&A, there’s always a ton of news that comes out of it and this past “Tribute to the Troops” was no exception. Most of this has been interpolated from MMAJunkie.com

GSP vs. Anderson Silva - According to Dana, providing they beat their next opponents (Jake Shields and Vitor Belfort) not only are we getting this match, we’re getting it this year. The deal is that St. Pierre would move up to 185 permanently, which would vacate the 170 title. The way I see it, the UFC gets one to three fights out of the two of them. If Silva wins, that’s it and he probably goes to 205. If GSP wins, Silva gets a rematch…and possibly the fans get a trilogy. Either way, boo Shields and boo Belfort, I hope you both lose.

Brian Stann vs. Wanderlai Silva - This fight is the one I’m most looking forward too, because I’m a huge fan of Brian Stann, who after beating Chris Leben last month called out Wanderlai. The UFC is working on making it happen, and depending on what happens with the GSP/Anderson fight, could there possibly be title implications? A Silva vs. Silva fight would be sick.

Anderson Silva Vacates the Middleweight Title

Okay, so he hasn’t yet. But if he’s gets past Chael Sonnen and Vitor Belfort, he will have to vacate the title before he’s allowed to compete at 205 pounds.

Why? Just because Dana White says so…

“In my opinion, [Anderson's] got Chael, who’s earned that title shot, and he’s got Vitor Belfort. Once he fights those two guys, he’s cleaned out that division, and I will press very hard for him to move to 205 pounds…I believe that when you make a move like that, for me, it’s always all about legacy. It’s never about money or any of that [expletive], so you have to clean out the division…what he wants to do I think is keep his 185-pound title and fight at 205, which you can’t do,” White said. “You have to vacate that title and move up.”

A lot of this stems from his now infamous fighting against Damien Maia, where he seemed more concerned with “showboating” than he was with finishing the fight…which personally I found entertaining for the first three rounds while Anderson was still beating the crap out of him. But if you’re going to clown your opponent like that…you need to finish him off.

I can’t see Anderson clowning Sonnen or Belfort…or possibly Wanderlai Silva, who I still think is a possibility.

The Next Senator of Massachusetts…UFC President DANA WHITE!

Now that Teddy Kennedy has been laid to rest and properly mourned by exploiting his death to try and ram through ObamaCare, there’s the issues of his open Senate seat. That’s right folks, for the first time in fifty some years, there is an open seat in Massachusetts with nary a Kennedy to fill it.

Sadly, there aren’t many Republicans left in Massachusetts to exploit this. But there is one who comes to mind. This man is a visionary. In these troubled economic times, this man is a successful business man who knows a thing or two aboot turning businesses around. This man is not afraid to trade punches with anyone who gets in his way.

A man who you know has to be a Republican, because there ain’t nobody who loves money more than him.

JBdotC is proud to endorse as the next Senator of the great commonwealth of Massachusetts, native son of the Bay State…UFC PRESIDENT DANA WHITE!

Dana White, GSP, and a Jar of Vaseline

It sounds like the title of some lonely 40 year old housewife’s slash fantasy, but apparently there is much ballyhoo over the BJ Penn/Georges St. Pierre fight and a jar of Vaseline.

I didn’t notice it while watching the fight myself, but apparently there were two instances inbetween rounds where GSP’s corner man, after rubbing Vaseline on his face (legal) rubbed a little on his back (very NOT legal). The second time it happened, a representative from the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) went apeshit, wiping it off of St. Pierre’s back and yelling at his corner.

Was it intentional? Was it unintentional? Is it the only reason GSP won the fight? Dana White, UFC president and my own personal Jesus, ain’t having none of it…

Georges St. Pierre vs. Anderson Silva

With Georges St. Pierre victorious and BJ Penn mulling retirement (which is funny, since Penn had called GSP a quitter), most MMA geeks attention has moved on to the next potential megafight…GSP vs. Anderson Silva. Fans want to know who is the pound for pound best, and top of that list is UFC President and my personal hero Dana White.

He just doesn’t want to see it right now. Thiago Alves is next for St. Pierre. But White did weigh in on who he thinks is the best…

“I still wouldn’t call (St. Pierre) pound-for pound the best in the world. But I would say, yea, he’s No. 2. No doubt about it. Anderson Silva has been annihilating everybody for a long time. Georges has some work to do now. If Georges takes out Thiago Alves, he’s on his way. The pound-for-pound to me, I would say Georges St. Pierre would be neck-and-neck with Anderson had he not lost to Matt Serra.”
