Real Naked Blog: GSP vs Anderson, Brian Stann vs Wanderlai, and more…

Whenever there’s a UFC even at President Dana White does Q&A, there’s always a ton of news that comes out of it and this past “Tribute to the Troops” was no exception. Most of this has been interpolated from MMAJunkie.com

GSP vs. Anderson Silva - According to Dana, providing they beat their next opponents (Jake Shields and Vitor Belfort) not only are we getting this match, we’re getting it this year. The deal is that St. Pierre would move up to 185 permanently, which would vacate the 170 title. The way I see it, the UFC gets one to three fights out of the two of them. If Silva wins, that’s it and he probably goes to 205. If GSP wins, Silva gets a rematch…and possibly the fans get a trilogy. Either way, boo Shields and boo Belfort, I hope you both lose.

Brian Stann vs. Wanderlai Silva - This fight is the one I’m most looking forward too, because I’m a huge fan of Brian Stann, who after beating Chris Leben last month called out Wanderlai. The UFC is working on making it happen, and depending on what happens with the GSP/Anderson fight, could there possibly be title implications? A Silva vs. Silva fight would be sick.

POLL: Who would win, Georges St. Pierre or Anderson Silva?

It’s the fight most UFC fans are salivating for, and UFC president Dana White is finally warming up to the idea. Could 2011 be the year we finally get the answer of who’s the pound for pound best: Georges St. Pierre or Anderson Silva?

A few things have to happen. First, both guys need to finish cleaning out their divisions. GSP will do that with a win over Jake Shields. Anderson has to get past Vitor Belfort, and possibly the winner of a Wanderlei Silva/Chael Sonnen fight.

The other thing is deciding what weight class they’d fight at. While a catch weight is possible, the most likely would be GSP leaving the welterweight division and bulking up to 185 to making a run as a middleweight.

So who would win? My gut tells me Georges St. Pierre, but I’d like to hear you all think. You can vote in the poll and/or give your best MMA analysis in the comment section…

Georges St. Pierre to headline UFC 100

The UFC reaches a milestone this July as it runs its 100th PPV event…kinda. I don’t know how they factor in the free shows on Spike TV, but either way, UFC100 will be held July 11 in Las Vegas. There was talk of a “Night of Champions” where all the titles would be on line.

Dana White, UFC president and my idol, says, “Eh, not so much so.” But he did mention one champion who would be fighting that nightGeorges St. Pierre. So sayeth my second favourite president this side of Simon Spero…

“I’m pretty confident that UFC 100 will have Georges St. Pierre on the card. UFC 100 will more than likely have Georges St. Pierre defending his welterweight title.”

Well said, Mr. White. Well said indeed.

GSP vs. BJ – The Saga Continues

The “Great UFC Vaseline Scandal of 2009” rages on. BJ Penn’s people may or may not have filed a formal complain with the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) so check in to if Georges St. Pierre was all greased down for their fight a few weeks ago.

GSP ain’t having none of it, and took the airwaves…

“One of my corner men did use an energy technique to help with my breathing that involves rubbing my back. He’s also done this in my previous fights. If there was any Vaseline left on his hand after he put it on my face, it was unintentional, and I do not believe it made the slightest difference in the outcome of the fight. Of course it’s up to the UFC, but I would be happy to offer B.J. a second rematch.”

Dana White, GSP, and a Jar of Vaseline

It sounds like the title of some lonely 40 year old housewife’s slash fantasy, but apparently there is much ballyhoo over the BJ Penn/Georges St. Pierre fight and a jar of Vaseline.

I didn’t notice it while watching the fight myself, but apparently there were two instances inbetween rounds where GSP’s corner man, after rubbing Vaseline on his face (legal) rubbed a little on his back (very NOT legal). The second time it happened, a representative from the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) went apeshit, wiping it off of St. Pierre’s back and yelling at his corner.

Was it intentional? Was it unintentional? Is it the only reason GSP won the fight? Dana White, UFC president and my own personal Jesus, ain’t having none of it…

Georges St. Pierre vs. Anderson Silva

With Georges St. Pierre victorious and BJ Penn mulling retirement (which is funny, since Penn had called GSP a quitter), most MMA geeks attention has moved on to the next potential megafight…GSP vs. Anderson Silva. Fans want to know who is the pound for pound best, and top of that list is UFC President and my personal hero Dana White.

He just doesn’t want to see it right now. Thiago Alves is next for St. Pierre. But White did weigh in on who he thinks is the best…

“I still wouldn’t call (St. Pierre) pound-for pound the best in the world. But I would say, yea, he’s No. 2. No doubt about it. Anderson Silva has been annihilating everybody for a long time. Georges has some work to do now. If Georges takes out Thiago Alves, he’s on his way. The pound-for-pound to me, I would say Georges St. Pierre would be neck-and-neck with Anderson had he not lost to Matt Serra.”
