Randy Altschuler’s 2nd Chance (or, Don’t Screw This Up Again Suffolk County)

There’s an interesting development out here on The L.I. and the NY-1. When last we spoke Randy Altschuler (after a ridiculous, unnecessary primary) came within a few percentage points of defeating incumbent Rep. Tim Bishop. He’s back for a rematch this year…and apparently is a handful of races cats are already keeping an eye on.

Politico.com has named it one of a few house districts to watch as a bellwether to see which direction the country is going in 2012. It’s one of the more conservative districts in the state, Bishop isn’t, and Altschuler house to economic background to appeal to more voters who are realizing the Obama might not have been the way to go…

Top 5 Songs of 2011: #2. “You Got Me” by Taking Back Sunday

I had mentioned “You Got Me” in my rambling over the bands self titled album being my album of the year, and the guitar licks are still pretty sweet. But lyrically is where the song really grabbed me.

They were aboot, at least according to my translation, the people you rely on when you’re at your darkest, and being that person for someone else. Anyone who knows me personally and/or just follows along on teh Internets knows that 2011 wasn’t particularly enjoyable, and I find myself being the one relying on others mopre so that usual. More than any other song this year, on a personaly level, this one…well, got me.

Of course the band went in a different direction for the video…

I Love NY Brew: Three Cheers for Chuck Schumer (No, Seriously)

No, I haven’t been drinking (yet), though y’all know I do fancy the sauce…

This is going to confuse the hell out of my out of state eConservative friends who only know Chuck Schumer as the entrenched Washington insider who demagogues and vilifies his opponents everytime he’s in front of a camera. While he is that, he’s also the senor New York Senator who is always trying to promote local business throughout the state, and now he’s chosen one near and dear to my heart…beer.

Craft beer is a booming industry and New York has SEVENTY-SEVEN breweries and brewpubs throughout the state. Schumer has launched a campaign to encourage local restaurants and businesses to sell more of them.

2011 Album of the Year: “Taking Back Sunday” by Taking Back Sunday

One of the highlights of my year was randomly being retweeted by John Nolan.

I choose a “song of the week” every week with the YRs, and picked “El Paso” the day it was first posted on the YouTubes. He was shocked (and I think somewhat amused) that YRs were into his band. My feeling has always been no matter how much people disagree on political issues, we can all agree on great rock n’ roll. That, and if we only listened to artists who agreed with us politically…Toby Keith gets boring real quick
