Ah. I see Mitt Romney surrogate Chris Christie went on “Morning Joe” this morning to remind us all again why we prefer him to Mitt Romney.

Generally speaking, living in New York, when I get into a political discussion with someone that makes me want to bang my head against the bar, it’s usually from someone on the left. Conservatives up in these here parts are viewed by liberals with a morbid curiosity, and if they know you disagree with them will come armed with talking points for whatever the issue du joir is, while you’re just looking to drink a beer.
In this particular case however, it was one of my own. We were talking about the $500 million that Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg donated to the Newark school system. This happened late last year, when he appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show with New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and Newark Mayor Cory Booker.
This person I was talking to had a problem with this, for two inexplicable reasons:

We wanted results and Gov. Christie has started to deliver the results. The first was having his budget passed with bi-partisan support. Though, to be fair, Christie didn’t get everything we wanted. He told “Morning Joe” that he only got 99.872 % of what he asked for.
What I found surprising was that even the newspapers were singing his praises, which they don’t normally do with anyone that has a (R-State) after their name. The “Newark Star Ledger” said it was his finest moment of governor, and even went so far as to issue a warning to state Democrats. Yes, you read the right.
So sayeth (I think) NJ’s #1 newspaper…

I’m cautiously optimistic about Chris Christie because while he says the right things and has us flocking to YouTube for his latest dose of “common sense porn” (it kills me to have to quote Glenn Beck), I still want to seem him get actual results before I put the Christie ’12 bumper sticker on the back of my car. I always draw comparisons to Sarah Palin who, after only being Governor for a year and saying the right things, we decided was ready to run for Vice President. Oops.
There was also Arnold Schwaretzenegger who was re-elected Governor, tried to get four ballot initiatives passed, and was trounced by the unions and other special interests in California. He didn’t try again after that, and I think California is more or less bankrupt.
So yeah, I wanna see results before getting too excited about Gov. Christie. Hey look! Results…

I was originally going to blog aboot this recent piece from The Dally Caller, on how many see Chris Christie’s war against the unions in New Jersey, and how many are starting to see it as one of the most important battles in the history of the party, and whether or not it’s time for Republican’s nationally to get involved. But Gov. Christie gives such great copy, I’d rather just copy and paste what he says.
The first blurb I’m lifting from Cubiachi, and it just speaks for itself…
“These are the typical kind of scare tactics that they involve themselves in,” Christie said about the 200,000-member New Jersey Education Association, which has been critical of his proposed $820 million cut in school aid. “Scaring students in the classroom, scaring parents with the notes home in the bookbags, and the mandatory ‘Project Democracy Homework’ asking your parents about what they’re going to do in the school board election, and reporting back to your teachers union representatives, using the students like drug mules to carry information back to the classroom, is reprehensible.”
And then there’s this video, where the quote I used for this headline comes from…

“If only he had some spare time, Washington could sure use Chris Christie.”
It’s funny. Here in New York we’re finally getting around to nominating our Republican nominee for Governor after months of unnecessary drama, and we already have the Democrat nominee acting like he’s the Republican running in New Jersey. Seems like a great time for another editorial on the awesomely awesome Chris Christie.
My key interest with what he’s doing in New Jersey is as a conservative living in New York, who keeps hearing the conservatism is dead in the Northeast and there’s no way a state as blue as New York would accept such arcane concepts as fiscal discipline. God willing Gov. Lazio will prove otherwise next year, but until then we have Gov. Christie as mad scientist and the state of New Jersey as a giant Petri dish.
As you’ll read on Investors.com, the Governor done gone bonkers…
